Afghanistan: Eight killed in Taliban attack
At least eight people were killed and many more wounded when insurgents attacked in the midst of one of Kabul’s diplomatic quarters, setting off a bomb and sending UN and international agency workers into blast shelters.
Two Afghan civilians, an Afghan police officer and five Taliban insurgents were among the dead in the attack on Friday. A Nepalese guard at the United Nations is also believed to have died.
The target appeared to be at or near the main compound of the United Nations, according to Afghan police, but the attackers ended up taking refuge in a private house nearby, fighting a 10-hour pitched battle with the police using guns and rocket-propelled grenade launchers.
