Philippines: How to make $90,000 for your religion?
Threaten to kill someone.
AUSTRALIAN Warren Rodwell was released by Islamic militants in the Philippines after the payment of more than $90,000, put in a boat and told to “paddle for his life”.
An emaciated Mr Rodwell, a former soldier, 54, was yesterday released at Pagadian, a port city on Mindanao island, some 100 kilometres east of where he kidnapped 15 months ago.
Philippine and Australian authorities refused to say if a ransom was paid, but Fairfax Media cited the key negotiator as revealing the equivalent of $A93,600 in pesos was handed over.
A spokesman said “As fundraising goes, it beats the hell out of holding a bring-and-buy sale.”
