New Zealand MP hits back at gay marriage bill attackers with reason!! And logic!! Continue reading
Former Catholic brother Bernard Kevin McGrath has been granted bail while he considers his stance on 252 fresh sex abuse charges on which he faces extradition to Australia.
The 65-year-old flew back to the city from Sri Lanka on Thursday and was arrested on Friday after fresh charges were laid in Australia.
The new charges allege he repeatedly raped, molested and abused dozens of young boys at church-run institutions in the Newcastle-Maitland diocese over several decades.
And of course, none of his colleagues or superiors in the Church noticed a thing…
Three New Zealand soldiers serving with the Provincial Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan have been killed after their vehicle was hit by a roadside bomb.
The incident happened in the northeast of Bamyan province about 9.20am on Sunday (local time), the New Zealand Defence Force said.
The last vehicle in a convoy was hit by a roadside bomb, northwest of Do Abe, on the road to Romero.
New Zealand skeptics of man-made global warming score historic legal victory as discredited government climate scientists perform U-turn and refuse to allow a third party peer-review report of official temperature adjustments to be shown in court. Skeptic lawyers move for sanctions likely to prove fatal to government’s case.
New Zealand’s National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research (NIWA) are reeling after what may prove a fatally embarrassing admission that it is breaking a solemn undertaking given to parliament. NIWA had assured ministers that it would disclose a third party peer-reviewed report of its science for courtroom verification as part of its defense against a petition in the case of NZ Skeptics-v-NIWA.
NIWA’s decision renders an almighty self-inflicted wound to the government agency’s already dire credibility. But worse, the move will be regarded as contempt of court and thus permits the court to grant the plaintiff’s motions for punitive sanctions, including summary judgment. As such, this would bring a swift victory for skeptics with profound legal ramifications around the world. In the sparsely-measured southern hemisphere the New Zealand climate data is critical to claims about a verified global temperature record…
At a stroke this case may affirm that up to one quarter of our planet’s climate records have been fraudulently audited.
“And we would have gotten away with it too, if it hadn’t been for those meddling sceptics!”
New Zealand Prime Minister John Key says the deaths of two New Zealand soldiers in Afghanistan is a great tragedy for the country.
The pair, who were working in the Provincial Reconstruction Team, died after a battle in Bamiyan province, in which six other Kiwi soldiers were wounded.
“For New Zealand, a small country, losing seven of our men is an enormous price to pay.” — NZ Prime Minister John Key
‘Price’, of course, implies you’re getting something in return. Which is…?
Najeeb Dawood, 52, had lured his wife to a shed at the back of the house where the couple lived in Strathmore, Wellington, on September 2, prosecutor Mr Grant Burston said.
While Dawood played an Arabic music video off YouTube he tied one of her wrists to a chair with masking tape.
As she screamed and struggled he took a large kitchen knife he had taken to the shed earlier and began inflicting the first of about 55 stab wounds.
The couple’s eldest daughter, Abeer, then 21 and pregnant, smashed the shed window and tried to climb through to save the life of her mother but her father forced her to retreat when he cut her calf.
Update: I assumed the defendant was a Muslim, but I’ve been informed that the defendant is actually an Assyrian Christian. My apologies.
A church billboard proclaiming that “Jesus Heals Cancer” has breached advertising standards by suggesting the church can offer something other churches cannot, the Advertising Standards Authority has ruled.
Napier’s Equippers Church had a billboard saying “Jesus heals cancer – church but not as you know it.”
It drew a number of complaints including from a mother whose son had cancer.
“As the mother of a three-year-old boy who has spent the past 18 months fighting against leukaemia, I find the above billboard offensive and upsetting,” the complainant, identified only as Jody Condin, wrote.
“It shows no compassion and understanding to those in our community that have journeyed through cancer and lost loved ones.”
The billboard has now been removed. Only the lingering stench of insensitive stupidity remains.
A scissor-wielding protester has destroyed a controversial billboard of the Virgin Mary, just days after it went up outside a New Zealand church.
Hours after the attack, 100 or so Roman Catholics gathered to pray in the rain in front of the ruined billboard, which had shown Mary gasping in shock as she examined a pregnancy testing kit.
The billboard outside the Anglican church of St Matthew’s in the City, in central Auckland, New Zealand, had drawn thousands of angry comments as well as messages of support from around the world.
Arthur Skinner, a member of an organisation calling itself the Catholic Action Group, who described the Renaissance-style picture as “satanic”, was photographed attacking it.
“Yes, it is vandalism,” Mr Skinner proclaimed proudly outside the church. ”I’m guilty. If they want to arrest me, be my guest.”
Poor New Zealand! No country should have to suffer earthquakes and Catholic bigotry.
But I still don’t get the point of the poster: ‘Come to our church because…‘ we have poor taste and a dubious sense of humour?
A New Zealand SAS soldier has died in Afghanistan.
The soldier was shot on Wednesday morning near the Afghan capital of Kabul. He has not yet been named.
New Zealand stopped to remember its need for healing, writes Karen Kissane.
MAORIS call it poroporoaki, the farewell for the dead. In Christchurch yesterday, they said, it was also much more: a ritual to heal a broken city, and to reconnect its people with the earth that has so hurt them.
When asked why they had allowed the quake to happen in the first place, the deities declined to comment.
A website that claims Christchurch’s devastating earthquake was an act of God triggered by the tolerance of homosexual behaviour in the city has been denounced as ”despicable and appalling” by New Zealand’s gay and lesbian community.
The website ”Christchurch Quake” – registered on September 20 to an address in Utah in the USA – suggests the destruction was a result of ”lesbians running loose on the South Island as if they own the place” and general ”amoral” behaviour.
Do they realise how stupid this makes their God? “Kill a lot of straight people and knock over a cathedral — yeah, that’ll get my message across, for sure.”
Key quote: In a sign of love and respect for Bishop Tamaki, surprise him with gifts.
