Muslim-majority Malaysia has banned a planned concert by Erykah Badu after a photograph appeared showing the Grammy-winning singer with the Arabic word for Allah written on her body.
The American R&B singer was scheduled to perform today in Kuala Lumpur, but some Muslim groups said Badu was an unsuitable role model for young Malaysians after seeing a publicity photo of her with what appeared to be temporary tattoos of the word Allah on her bare shoulders.
Malaysia: Colluding with craziness
Malaysian authorities have deported a Saudi journalist accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad in a tweet.
Police confirmed to the BBC that Hamza Kashgari was sent back to Saudi Arabia on Sunday despite protests from human rights groups.
Mr Kashgari’s controversial tweet last week sparked more than 30,000 responses and several death threats.
Sending a man back to his probable death because he was rude about someone who died 1500 years ago… truly, religion is an inexhaustible well of lunacy.
Australia: An ‘honour killing’ in Leichhardt
THE murder of a man who worked at the Malaysian consulate in Sydney was an honour killing carried out by the family of a woman with whom he was having an affair, a court has heard.
Mohd Shah Saemin was beaten and stabbed to death on a street in Leichhardt in February last year, allegedly in front of witnesses.
Since when has it been ‘honourable’ to beat and stab someone to death?

Malaysia: Gullibility = rape
Four boys who pretended to be possessed by gods in order to trick a teenage girl into perfoming sex acts on them have been charged in court.
The victim, who was 14 years old then, was told she would receive divine punishment if she did not carry out the wishes of the alleged attackers, reported The Straits Times.
One of the attackers was only 12 at that time.
The victim was also raped by the ringleader who came up with the scheme after he was inspired by seeing worshippers at a Chinese temple becoming ‘possessed’.
… and that, children, is how religion first came into the world.
Malaysia: ‘Effeminate’ schoolboys sent to butch camp
ABC News (Australian Broadcasting Corporation).
Authorities in Malaysia have sent 66 Muslim schoolboys identified by their teachers as effeminate to a special camp to receive counselling on masculine behaviour.
The boys will undergo four days of religious and motivational classes and physical activities designed to guide them back to what has been described as the “right path in life”.
Apparently some of the boys even wanted to wear dresses and jewellery, but authorities believe that a thorough grounding in religious principles will take care of that.
The state’s education director, Razali Daud, says although homosexuals and transvestites do exist in Malaysia, the authorities want to limit their numbers.
What, you can’t become a homosexual until an old one retires?
Malaysia: Islamic teacher suspected of fatally beating boy

Malaysian police say they are investigating an Islamic school teacher on suspicion of beating to death a seven-year-old student accused of stealing seven ringgit ($2.20).
A police chief in northern Perlis state said Saiful Syazani Saiful Sopfidee died in hospital on Sunday of injuries sustained during Thursday’s beating at the private school.

Malaysia: Warning stamped on Bibles to protect feeble-minded
A dispute over the distribution of Malay-language Bibles containing the word “Allah” as a translation for God has caused authorities to hold 35,000 Indonesian-made Bibles at two Malaysian ports since 2009. The government in this Muslim-majority country bans the use of “Allah” in non-Islamic texts, saying it could confuse Muslims or even be used to convert them.
Last week, the government agreed to release the Bibles on condition they are stamped with serial numbers and seals with warnings that the books are meant for Christians only. The Christian Federation of Malaysia, which represents most of the country’s churches, said that would amount to desecrating the Bibles.
Late Tuesday, the Prime Minister’s Department offered what it called a “fair and reasonable solution” to resolve the dispute.
The Bibles will be released with only the words “For Christianity” stamped on them, the department said in a statement. For books already stamped with serial numbers and seals, it said Christian donors have offered to replace them with new imported Bibles.
How about: ‘Government Warning: the contents of this book could be harmful to your mental health’? They could add some pictures of fundamentalists.
Malaysia: Christian lawyer barred from Shariah courts
A Christian lawyer in Malaysia has failed in her attempt to be allowed to practise in the Muslim Shariah courts.
Victoria Jayaseele Martin said she wanted to appear for non-Muslim clients fighting in such courts, to provide them with fairer representation.
An increasing number of cases heard in the Islamic courts involve both Muslims and non-Muslims….
The civil courts cater to its non-Muslim citizens while the Islamic system decides issues affecting the fate of the country’s Muslim majority.
A judge in Kuala Lumpur dismissed her challenge to the decision of a religious council that all lawyers in Islamic courts must be Muslim.
Because she might be objective or something…
Malaysia: Female Sharia judges — welcome to the 19th century

Malaysia’s two newly-appointed women Sharia judges will not be allowed to rule on criminal or divorce cases, a top official says, while denying the religious courts are biased.
…
“The two female judges will only hear civil cases, they will not hear criminal cases, they cannot hear divorce cases but they will be able to hear cases related to custody (of children), alimony and common property,”
We’ve given them some pretty robes, and the TV in their lounge is tuned to the daytime soap operas, so the little darlings really have nothing to complain about at all.
Malaysia: ‘God made animals for testing’

…Malacca Chief Minister Mohamad Ali Rustam said on Monday the lab had received state approval, and animal testing was necessary to make drugs. The project is still in the planning phase.

Malaysia: the Muslim, the Hindu and the custody dispute
Lawyers say they have seen an increasing number of cases in recent years where one parent, typically the father, has converted to Islam and converted the children without the other parent’s knowledge.
Once they are converted and their identity card is stamped “Islam,” the children face far-reaching consequences.
As always, it’s the powerless who suffer most in these sky-fairy games.
