New Zealand: Assyrian Christian murders wife, stabs daughter

Najeeb Dawood, 52, had lured his wife to a shed at the back of the house where the couple lived in Strathmore, Wellington, on September 2, prosecutor Mr Grant Burston said.

While Dawood played an Arabic music video off YouTube he tied one of her wrists to a chair with masking tape.

As she screamed and struggled he took a large kitchen knife he had taken to the shed earlier and began inflicting the first of about 55 stab wounds.

The couple’s eldest daughter, Abeer, then 21 and pregnant, smashed the shed window and tried to climb through to save the life of her mother but her father forced her to retreat when he cut her calf.

Update: I assumed the defendant was a Muslim, but I’ve been informed that the defendant is actually an Assyrian Christian. My apologies.
