US: Another one bites the dust…

The Archdiocese of Detroit placed one of its priests on a leave of absence after he was accused of sexual misconduct.

Father Gary Schulte, 68, was the pastor at St. Sylvester Parish in Warren. On Friday, Schulte was placed on administrative leave and was restricted from celebrating mass or presenting himself as a priest in public.

The Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines has been warned on the status of a US-based Filipino priest who was suspended due to trial charges of theft and possession of pornographic materials.

Most Rev. Robert McManus of Worcester diocese in Massachusetts, USA told CBCP president and Tandag Bishop Nereo Odchimar in a letter that the priest has fled his diocese and might be in the Philippines.

The US-based priest, Rev. Lowe B. Dongor, has been charged with theft and possession of child pornography and was about to go on trial last October 25 when he disappeared from the diocese before he could appear in court.

Israel: ten killed in Gaza hostilities

Israeli airstrikes killed nine Palestinian members of Islamic Jihad’s armed wing in southern Gaza on Saturday, according to the militant group. And Gaza militants fired salvos of rockets at cities in southern Israel, killing one Israeli and wounding at least two others in a sudden escalation of cross-border violence.

Afghanistan: 17 killed in bus bombing

At least 17 people, including 12 Americans, were killed when a Taliban suicide car bomber attacked an armoured bus in Kabul, officials said.

The bombing on Saturday was the single deadliest assault on Americans in the capital since the war began and follows brazen Taliban attacks on the US embassy and NATO headquarters in the city last month.
