Australia: Bible-thumping MP blames everyone else for his conviction

Brisbane Times.

Jailed former minister Gordon Nuttall has told ex-Labor colleagues they deserted him in his time of need during a historic address to the Queensland Parliament.

Nuttall, serving 12 years in prison on corruption and perjury convictions, was brought before the bar of the Parliament at midday to explain why he should not be fined for failing to disclose secret payments from businessmen.

“Today all of us have the opportunity cease and forgive,” he said, noting the biblical virtue of loving one’s enemies….

With a sombre mood in the air, Nuttall ended his speech by urging MPs to read Matthew 7:1-2.

Having conveniently forgotten about Mark 12:17.

Point taken, thanks. I have corrected the original.

Shouldn’t the title be Bible thumping or Bible quoting MP? He certainly wasn’t bashing the Bible; he was using it as a prop to excuse his crime.
